Fried Oreos
October 16, 2018
I was visiting my daughter and one night we went to a sandwich place for supper. The food was good, but not the huge servings most places have. Because I was still a bit hungry, I looked at the dessert menu.
I have heard about fried desserts--double jeopardy--for years, but because I don't go to county fairs and I don't live in the south, I've never come across them in person. I figured this was a good time to try one. They offered an Oreo, a Twinkie, and a Moonpie. I didn't want to overdo it, so I went with the Oreo.
I also thought it would be a small portion because the price was very low, so I was quite surprised when the server delivered a basket with six bundles, each a good deal larger than a standard Oreo.
My daughter took this photo to commemorate the occasion.
The Oreo was melted, which was nice, and the batter coating was interesting, but I didn't think it improved the original cookie. However, they came with a side of Nutella for dipping.
I'd only had Nutella once before, and never bought a jar because I absolutely loved it. I could eat the entire jar with a spoon at one sitting. Needless to say, the Nutella ramped up the Fried Oreo from pleasant to fantastic. I enjoyed two, as did my daughter, and then sat there looking at the last two. After a bit of contemplation, I indulged in a third one, but knew the fourth would be a mistake.
I'm glad I tried it. I suppose I might try something else fried sometime, but I'm not as curious as I used to be. And I know, without question, that I need to stay far, far away from Nutella.
