My Favorite Christmas Movies

December 08, 2021

My Number One, hands down, no question about it favorite is White Christmas. I've watched it for so long that I have no idea when I first saw it, but I must have been a kid. I became a Danny Kaye fan early on, watching old movies on tv on rainy Saturday afternoons. This movie has it all--singing, dancing, comedy and a sentimental ending that brings tears to my eyes every year. It wouldn't be Christmas without White Christmas.

Miracle on 34th Street is high on my list and I prefer the 1994 version. It's great story of all kinds of people learning to embrace the spirit of Christmas. And I want to say, "I Believe!" in Santa. Don't most grown-ups?

Last year was the first time I watched The Christmas Chronicles and I enjoyed it. I grew up seeing Kurt Russell in just about every Disney movie that came out, then just occasionally through the passing years. It was fun to see him again and ... he can sing! Who knew? I liked the sequel well enough, except Santa's elves are rather nasty and look like gremlins. Not good.

Love Actually is too long for regular watching, but every few years I pull it out. It's full of warm fuzzies, as everyone finally ends up with the one they love.

Just as important are the children's shows, which I'm happy to watch with or without children. A Charlie Brown Christmas is a  must, followed by How the Grinch Stole Christmas. And Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer (1964 animated version)needs to show up once in a while.

I want to watch some new (to me) movies this year. What do you recommend?

I'd love to have your company to watch any of these shows, but you should know that I sing along. Loudly. Mostly on-key. I have no shame when it comes to Christmas music.
